Opelika Wood Duck
Heritage Preserve

Serving as an active water waste treatment system, the Opelika Wood Duck Heritage Preserve is a small, nature centric preserve with a rich history where visitors of all ages can enjoy a peaceful and relaxing experience with nature. The primary goal for the Opelika Wood Duck Heritage Preserve is to be a place where nature is reverently and passionately protected and admired. Whether one enjoys bird watching, walking along trails, or learning about wildlife in Lee County, there is something for everyone to appreciate at the Opelika Wood Duck Heritage Preserve.

The goal of this project was to design a logo, identity system, map, and signage for the Opelika Wood Duck Heritage Preserve in Opelika, Alabama. This logo and system must hold true to the ideals, values, and goals of this preserve.

My design concept is summed up by three words: calming, nurturing, and peaceful. To accomplish this I use organic shapes, a soft color palette inspired by the preserve, and inviting and soothing typefaces.

Served as the sole designer on this project at Auburn University.

One of the two finalist chosen by the Board of the Opelika Wood Duck Heritage Preserve to be the official identity and wayfinding system used.
